On Saturdays, as part of our #SmallBusinessSaturday initiative, we (virtually) visit our retailers across the globe to share their stories!
Today, for our #SmallBusinessSaturday, we're showcasing Flair Boutique in Freeport, IL! Here's our interview with Kelly Chesney, the owner of Flair Boutique. You can visit their website (flair.boutique) or visit their brick and mortar store and check out her Instagram @flair.boutique.freeport
Tell us about your store. How long have you been in the fashion business and what made you want to dive into the fashion industry?
Flair Boutique has been in the fashion business since 2016, I've been in the beauty industry for 22 years! Always having a passion for the beauty industry and fashion world, I decided to have them combined and started Flair.
How did you discover Mono B?
I discovered Mono B through the FashionGo website and fell in love! The quality, price point, and patterns are a win-win for Flair!
What are you most proud of about your store or what sets you apart from the other stores in your area?
I am most proud of being a Boutique for all women to love, offering a wide range of sizes, styles, and patterns I hope everyone feels they can shop with us. I’ve also started a trend with Women-owned Boutiques moving to our downtown which is growing!
What do you like most about Mono B?
What I like most about MonoB is that I can carry extra small through XL. We have a huge variety of body shapes in our world and I am proud to partner with Mono B to provide for them all.
Let's address the elephant in the room: 2020 was not a good year in a lot of ways, but many stores survived because people's clothing needs shifted to more comfortable wear (such as loungewear and athleisure). How were you able to manage through 2020?
Plain and simple, I didn’t stay home I went to work! I provided online shopping parties which not only gave people interaction but were also a fun way to spend the evening. I grew online and through social media. I actually doubled my Boutique. I also started an Ambassador program, which is about 10 women that help promote and grow Fair Boutique.
I am very proud of how I was able to conquer 2020 and I have more support now than ever!
Is there a particular story you cherish and share all the time about 2020? (Even if it's not fashion-related, we'd still like to hear it!)
A story from 2020 would be my quarantine shopping hours! Every time we would do one, something funny would happen! It started with my Monday night lives which I still do today! Pictures would fall off the wall, weird lights would appear, even the alarm went off on another business and I got swarmed with PD and fire dept. many interesting days and nights!
Now that we're already more than halfway through 2021, how do you think the year will end? Are you more hopeful?
I am very hopeful and pray that we are going to finish this year strong and better than ever! Looking forward to a super holiday season!
